ScannX and ABBYY sign Agreement to Develop Scanning Solutions For the Educational Market

Pleasanton, CALIFORNIA – December 27, 2011, ScannX today announced that it signed a software licensing agreement with ABBYY to integrate ABBYY FineReader Engine 10 Professional into its ScannX Capture software. This integration offers users of ScannX systems and software automatic conversion of scanned books and documents into searchable and editable file formats. ABBYY is a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies and software. ScannX is a leading developer of document capture and delivery software with expertise in the educational and commercial markets.

“We are excited about partnering with ScannX to strengthen our position in the educational market”, said Joe Budelli, senior vice president of Sales of ABBYY USA. “The ScannX management team is well recognized for its leadership and innovation in document imaging as well as its successful track record in supporting scanning solutions for the educational market”.

The ScannX software easily guides the user to automatically scan and save book pages, documents, contracts, receipts, resumes and photos into digital files. Scanned images can be automatically converted into PDF, searchable PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TIF, JPEG, PNG and HTML file formats, among others. The converted files may then be sent automatically to eMail as an attachment, a USB flash drive, Google Docs, Smartphone, Tablet, fax or printer, by simply selecting the desired option on the touchscreen.

“We are integrating ABBYY’s technology into our software and bundling it into a self-service book scanning center for library patrons and staff”, said Murray Dennis, president and CEO of ScannX. “The book scanning center includes a 15” touchscreen computer preloaded with the ScannX and ABBYY software, and a patented book-edge scanner to protect the spine of the book. The scanner’s beveled edge enables students to scan to the edge of the book spine, producing clear and legible text in the center of the book. When the clear image is converted into searchable or editable text by ABBYY’S FineReader technology, the result is unmatched accuracy. Moreover, our implementation for OCR conversion is more than twice as fast as competitive systems.”

ScannX’s patent pending software, plus its patented book-edge design, is designed for librarians, archivists, historians, genealogists, municipalities, and others who want to preserve rare, historical and reference books. ScannX’ patent pending scan-to-smartphone and tablet features, as well as its scan-to-fax services, and integration with credit and debit card payment systems offer increased productivity in research and collaboration as well as revenue sharing opportunities for resellers and libraries. ABOUT SCANNX
ScannX designs, develops, markets, and supports innovative document scanning solutions for the educational and municipality markets. Its patented Book ScanCenter features the industry’s first cloud-based scanning technology integrated with an 11″x 17″ high speed USB2.0 flatbed scanner with glass that comes to the beveled edge of the scanner. This patented book-edge design allows books to lay flat on each page, eliminating the blackened areas of text resulting from the page curvature at the book spine. As a result, the scan produces clearly readable text across the entire page. The book itself is also protected from damage to its spine, thereby reducing repair and replacement costs.

Through its easy-to-use Touchscreen interface, the Book ScanCenter allows students and library patrons alike to scan books and documents into PDF, searchable PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files and automatically store these files onto any digital repository to support an organization’s GOING GREEN initiatives. Scan to destinations include USB flash drive, email as an attachment, Google Docs, Smartphones, tablets, fax and printer. Once stored in a digital format, students can search, retrieve, edit, email, or print those files from their PC. The Book ScanCenter also integrates with third party pay-per-scan usage and revenue sharing systems. For more information, please visit www.scannx.com.
